1. Akeela House Recovery Center

Akeela House is a residential program offered by Akeela, Inc. The rehab facility can house 48 patients and is a co-ed facility. Akeela, Inc. offers services for individuals in different stages of treatment, which include assessments, outpatient counseling, intensive outpatient programs (IOP), treatment for co-occurring disorders, halfway housing, and many services that cater to women who are trying to regain or maintain custody of their children.

Akeela has an additional inpatient residential program for women who need drug and alcohol abuse treatment and need to bring their children with them. In this way, the family unit can remain intact while the parent receives treatment that will strengthen the family.

Akeela receives state funding for up to 21 patients, and there are additional funds from other sources that can provide treatment for no more than five patients. Services are not refused based on a lack of ability to pay.

2. Discovery Cove Recovery And Wellness Center

Discovery Cove offers several different types of addiction treatment options. From outpatient services to locating treatment funding, Discovery Cove can offer assistance for drug and alcohol abuse. Once a need for substance abuse services is established, as long as clients meet the requirements for service, they can begin treatment.

This intensive outpatient program uses structured group therapy to treat substance abuse and explore abuse- and addiction-related issues. In sessions led by licensed mental health professionals, group therapy sessions include both therapeutic and educational components.

Depending on available funding, insurance plans, and an income-based needs assessment, prices can vary.

3. Rainforest Recovery Center

Rainforest Recovery has room for 16 inpatient clients at this evidence-based substance abuse treatment facility. This facility has a history of taking clients with special needs who have been declined by other facilities, including clients with co-occurring medical, drug, alcohol, or psychiatric disorders.

While they do not provide medical detox on-site, they do refer to nearby hospitals for this specific need. Rainforest accepts state insurance, private insurance, and offers a sliding scale for uninsured or underinsured clients.

4. Set Free Alaska / Valley Oaks

Set Free Alaska offers substance abuse treatment for teens and adults in an outpatient setting and an inpatient residential substance abuse treatment program for women. This facility combines clinical therapeutic techniques with spiritual principles during counseling, group therapy, treatment for co-occurring disorders, and aftercare.

Valley Oaks Women’s Residential Treatment Center has a 16-client facility where women can bring their children, up to age 10, into treatment with them. This client-centered form of rehabilitation allows women to direct their own treatment.

Set Free Alaska and Valley Oaks both take state and private insurance and offer a sliding scale based on income, as long as income can be verified.

5. Sitka Counseling And Prevention Services Integrated Behavioral Health Program

Sitka Counseling offers residential treatment for adults in two locations: Mac’s Place (men only) and Mary’s Place (women only). Residents typically stay an average of four to six months. During this time, they are to remain sober, attend treatment, take care of the house, and prepare to return to their community.

Sitka Counseling also offers substance abuse in an outpatient program designed for both men and women. If Sitka Counseling cannot provide the care that the client needs for any reason, they will reach out to the community and find an agency that can.

All services at Sitka are available to everyone and payment is based on an income-driven sliding scale based on poverty line guidelines. Sitka will not turn away people who cannot afford to pay for services.

6. Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation (YKHC)

Yukon-Kuskokwim is part of a multi-tiered system that provides healthcare for Natives in over 41 Alaskan villages. YKHC offers both inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment for men and women.

With facilities across Alaska, outpatient services are available in all locations that are equipped with video teleconferencing.

For residential treatment, services are available in the following facilities:

  • Ayagnirvik Healing Center, located in Bethel, is an intensive program that is six weeks long. It provides counseling, group, and one-on-one therapy, trauma care, and a 12-step program. This location also offers medication-assisted therapy for opioid addiction treatment, outpatient therapy, and aftercare for patients.
  • Group Homes (Morgan House, Bautista House, Malone Home) are located in Bethel for people who need intensive, long-term care for treatment of substance use disorders.
  • McCann Treatment Center in Bethel offers residential substance abuse treatment for teens over a 12- to 18-month period. This facility also includes year-round schooling for residents. The McCann center accepts youth from all over Alaska.

YKHC offers services to individuals based on community referral and legal recommendation. Individuals who seek drug and alcohol treatment services through YKHC can request services through the village in which they reside.
