Colorado Free Or Low-Costs Drug Rehab Centers

Colorado receives approximately $50,000 annually in federal funds dedicated to substance abuse treatment and prevention. Low-cost or free treatment programs are available with the help of these funds.

Historically, Colorado has seen an upswing of prescription drug use. In just over ten years, from 2000 to 2011, the number of overdoses connected to prescriptions nearly quadrupled.

Unfortunately, it isn’t just prescription drug use that is an issue in Colorado. Alcohol, methamphetamines, cocaine, heroin, and other opioids are abused at shockingly high rates also.

Colorado has gotten significant attention for legalizing the use of recreational marijuana, but they also have been developing new and alternative ways to address substance abuse in the state.

Colorado offers options like drug court, which includes a comprehensive recovery program, and the state covers at least half the cost of treatment. They also consider mental illness and other issues in regards to court-ordered rehabilitation.

Another helpful option in Colorado is the 911 Good Samaritan Law. This law is in place to save lives. If a person calls 9-1-1 to help someone who is overdosing, the person receives immunity for any minor drug possession.
