Ways to Access Free And Low-Cost Recovery Programs In Louisiana

There are many ways to access free or nearly free rehab services in Louisiana, including through government grant funds, Medicaid insurance, and sliding scales for payment.

Louisiana Medicaid

Medicaid is an insurance program run by the government that is designed for low-income, pregnant, or disabled people who couldn’t otherwise afford health care.

When using Louisiana Medicaid for addiction treatment, a co-payment may be necessary depending on the extent of services provided at the alcohol and drug treatment center.

A Sliding Fee Scale

Many clinics and other addiction treatment programs offer a sliding fee scale if your income is below a certain threshold. This means that the treatment center will reduce the price of treatment to match your income level. You may be asked to provide proof of income and household size when using a sliding scale.

Federal Grants For Substance Use

There are federal and state grants for people with drug abuse and addiction who aren’t eligible for Medicaid or Medicare and can’t afford private health insurance.

One of the most prominent grants comes from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). SAMHSA’s Substance Use Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery Services Block Grant (SUBG) program renews every year. SUBG funding is available in all 50 states, including Louisiana, and is designed to help low-income and other at-risk people access the behavioral health services they need.

There are also Louisiana state-funded rehab centers available for residents who may be unable to afford treatment on their own.

Non-Profit Organizations

Another option for free addiction treatment is attending a non-profit facility that is funded through the state or through private donations. Some non-profit addiction programs may ask that clients pay a small fee upon admission to help cover boarding costs.
